Philippines’ ABS-CBN closes regional stations that served remote communities for decades

After being forced off the air in May, the Philippines’ broadcasting giant ABS-CBN will now close 53 regional television and radio stations after advertising revenues plummeted. Hundreds of retrenched employees on August 31, 2020, said goodbye to the offices of the regional network that, for decades, has sent out vital information to isolated communities that have little or no internet access.
