Nearly two decades after specialised police units were shut down, the Murder and Robbery Unit is again part of the SAPS structure. National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole has told eNCA it is part of efforts to tackle the growing crime problem. Former commissioner Jackie Selebi closed specialised units in 2001 - a move largely blamed for escalating serious crimes such as murder.
