43% of schools in the world lack access to water and soap

UNICEF and the World Health Organization are calling on authorities to prioritise children’s safety as schools prepare to reopen. The organisations report that 43 percent of schools around the world lacked access to water and soap in 2019. This is a challenge as schools attempt to reopen during the COVID-19 outbreak, when hand washing is crucial. UNICEF spokesman James Elder discusses this further.
