राखी यानी रक्षाबंधन का त्योहार हर साल सावन महीने की पूर्णिमा तिथि को मनाया जाता है। यह त्योहार साल 3 अगस्त को है। राखी का त्योहार का संबंध आमतौर पर भाई-बहनों के स्नेह और प्रेम से माना गया है क्योंकि इस त्योहार में बहनें अपने भाइयों की कलाई में रेशम की डोर जिसे राखी कहते हैं बांधती है और भाई की लंबी उम्र और समृद्धि की कामना करती है।लेकिन पुराणों के पन्ने पलटकर देखेंगे तो आपको जानकर हैरानी होगी कि राखी ना केवल भाई बहनों के प्रेम और स्नेह का त्योहार है बल्कि यह पति-पत्नी के संबंध और उनके सुहाग से जुड़ा हुआ पर्व भी है। भविष्यपुराण में इस इस संदर्भ में एक हैरान करने वाली कथा का उल्लेख किया गया है। सतयुग में वृत्रासुर नाम का एक असुर हुआ जिसने देवताओं के पराजित करके स्वर्ग पर अधिकार कर लिया।
