A large-scale rally was held in the Belarusian capital of Minsk in support of opposition presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya on July 30.

Footage shows supporters in Bangalore Square waving flags and showing support. Reports say around 25,000 attended in what some have said is Belarus' biggest such rally since independence from the Soviet Union.

Video shows supporters turn on flashlights on their phones during the rally.

Tikhanovskaya has gained support after her presidential hopeful husband Sergei Tikhanovsky was arrested on charges of attacking a police officer.

She has promised to free political prisoners if appointed president.
