France & Germany could be added to quarantine list after COVID-19 spike hits Europe

Fears are growing that France and Germany may be added to the UK’s quarantine list after tourists in Spain were told to self isolate on their return to Britain at the weekend. After seeing a spike in coronavirus cases Spain was placed on the UK’s list of countries travellers must quarantine for 14 days on their return or face a £1000 fine.

Government ministers have warned more countries may be removed from the safe travel list of nations if their COVID-19 cases spiral out of control. At the moment around 70 destinations are classed as safe to go to and do not require self-isolation on return to Britain. However, according to newspaper reports, a majority of these countries have seen a spike in coronavirus cases over the last week, including Spain. Officials in France and Germany have warned fresh lockdowns may be instigated to prevent renewed outbreaks of coronavirus. An estimated 1.8 million British tourists could be impacted by the change in government advice over the coming months, including 600,000 in Spain.
