Missiles fired from underground
Iran's elite army unit says it launched ballistic missiles from "the depths of the Earth" Wednesday during the last day of military exercises involving a mock-up American aircraft carrier in the Gulf.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it was "the first time in the world" that such an exercise had been carried out,... and hailed the successful launch as an important achievement that could "pose serious challenges to enemy intelligence organizations."
The launch from what appears to be central Iran's dessert plateau comes at a time of heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Periodic confrontations in the Gulf have flared up between the U.S. military and IRGC in recent years.
