University of Hong Kong sacks Occupy leader Benny Tai
  • 4 years ago
The University of Hong Kong sacked Occupy movement leader Benny Tai from his tenured post as an associate professor of law on July 28, 2020. Tai was sentenced to 16 months in jail for two public nuisance offences for his role in the city’s Occupy civil disobedience movement in 2014, but released on bail pending an appeal. His removal reversed an earlier decision by the university senate that there were not enough grounds for a dismissal.
