This is the heartwarming moment a man swam through a filthy canal in Bangkok to rescue a drowning dog.

The passerby heard the pooch splashing frantically while trying to stay afloat on on July 22.

Despite the risks of the foul polluted water, he grabbed three empty tubs to use as floats and plunged into the canal.

Footage from onlooker, Mutida, shows how the man bravely paddled through the water to reach the drowning Aspin breed of dog. He then dragged it to the shore before climbing before locals helped to dry the pooch.

Mutida said: "The dog was drowning but luckily the man was courageous enough to jump in and rescue it. If he hadn't seen the dog, it would have died."

The dog is believed to be one of thousands of strays that roam the streets of the capital of Thailand.
