Anti-Inflammatory Meds May Offer Hope To People With Depression
  • 4 years ago
A new study reveals anti-inflammatory drugs may offer relief to people with depression who are resistant to standard drug treatments.
According to UPI, adults with treatment-resistant depression have elevated blood levels of genes linked to inflammation and stress.
Therefore, researchers say the drugs designed to treat inflammation might help with the condition.
Researchers are now holding clinical trials to assess various anti-inflammatory drugs -- like aspirin -- in those who don't respond to antidepressants.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than 7% of US adults have depression. As many as half fail to improve after drug therapy.
