Truck driver 'deliberately flips vehicle' to avoid crashing into people after brakes failed

This is the shocking moment a truck's brakes failed before the driver deliberately flipped it over to avoid crashing into people.

The lorry was carrying processed chicken when it sped towards the u-turn point on a road in Suphan Buri, central Thailand on Thursday July 16 morning.

Street CCTV footage shows the truck trying to reduce speed before running past the bend and flipping onto its side.

The crashed truck slid for a few meters before it stopped after hitting the barrier - just a few feet from dozens of people visiting market stalls.

The driver Amphai Thammada, 37, suffered minor injuries. He said the brake system failed and if he had not swerved the wheel to roll the truck he would have crashed into people.

He said: "I tried to stop at the u-turn but the brake was not working. I was worried that I could crash into people so I swerved the wheel to flip over the truck.''

The police later went to examine the scene. There were no casualties but there will still be an investigation.

Police Major Ajcharee Wutthiwattana said: "It was fortunate that there no one was injured from the accident.

"But it is still considered a dangerous accident which we will investigate to know the cause. If the owner of the truck has not maintained it correctly they will be prosecuted.''
