Asked if the removal of Jen Reid’s statue represented a backward step in the fight against racism, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, a former Nigerian foreign affairs minister, said, “The black salute is a salute for every slave who was captured from Africa. Whether that statue stayed there for one day, two days or three days, history will not forget that that statue was once erected.” Asks Organisers to ask the Bristol City Council for formal approval for the permanent erection of the statue.
