Coronavirus: South Africa becomes continent’s clear leader in Covid-19 infections

South Africa has seen a surge of Covid-19 infections in recent weeks, with the number of cases accounting for nearly half of all cases recorded on the continent. As of July 15, 2020, the country had confirmed 311,049 coronavirus infections and 4,453 deaths. South Africa’s president reimposed a curfew as well as an alcohol ban on July 13.
