It's Time To Check In: How Is Your Kid's Emotional Intelligence?
HuffPost reports that while the term 'emotional intelligence' isn't a strictly clinical one, it's still important. So, how do you know if your child has it?
Parents should start by asking themselves a few questions. The first is whether your child can describe their feelings and other people's feelings.
Young children have trouble expressing complex emotions but can usually express happy, mad, and sad. Empathy for others comes later, but it should come.
Next, is your child behaving more or less like other children of the same age? Developmental milestones, even emotional ones, are a good gauge.
Finally, can your child handle tough emotions and still function? And are you modelling a way for them to do it appropriately?
It really goes back to sitting down and having conversations around these core concepts with your children. Patty Treend Managing Partner, LearnEQ
