The Congress Working Committee (CWC) is expected to meet soon to take a call on extending the tenure of Sonia Gandhi, who completes a year as the party’s interim chief on August 10. A Congress functionary said the extension would be a technical requirement as per the party constitution because a regular president is yet to be elected. The party also has to inform the Election Commission of India (ECI) of its decision as a prerequisite condition.

कांग्रेस पार्टी की अंतरिम अध्यक्ष के तौर पर सोनिया गांधी का एक साल का कार्यकाल को 10 अगस्त को समाप्त हो रहा है। इसे बढ़ाने के लिए जल्द ही कांग्रेस वर्किंग कमेटी की बैठक होगी। मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक कांग्रेस के एक पदाधिकारी ने कहा कि पार्टी के संविधान के अनुसार कार्यकाल के विस्तार के लिए बैठक की आवश्यकता होती है। पार्टी को अपना निर्णय चुनाव आयोग को सूचित करना होगा। उन्होंने कहा कि महामारी को रोकने के लिए 25 मार्च से लागू कोरोनो वायरस लॉकडाउन के कारण नए अध्यक्ष के चुनाव की प्रक्रिया शुरू नहीं की जा सकी है।
