हम सभी जानते हैं कि देवों के देव महादेव के पास दो नहीं बल्कि तीन आंखें हैं। मान्यता के अनुसार, वह अपनी तीसरी आंख का प्रयोग तब करते हैं, जब सृस्टि का विनाश करना हो। लेकिन क्या आप जानते हैं कि आखिर भगवान शिव को तीसरी आंख कैसे मिली थी? इसका रहस्य बड़ा ही गहरा है। महाभारत के छठे खंड के अनुशासन पर्व में बताया गया है कि आखिर शिवजी को तीसरी आंख कैसे मिली थी। पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार, एक बार नारद जी भगवान शिव और माता पार्वती के बीच हुए बातचीत को बताते हैं। इसी बातचीत में त्रिनेत्र का रहस्य छुपा हुआ है।नारद जी बताते हैं कि एक बार हिमालय पर भगवान शिव एक सभा कर रहे थे, जिसमें सभी देवता, ऋषि-मुनि और ज्ञानीजन शामिल थे। तभी सभा में माता पार्वती आईं और उन्होंने अपने मनोरंजन के लिए अपने दोनों हाथों से भगवान शिव की दोनों आंखों को ढक दिया।
