London's V&A Museum announces new partnership with S. Korea to improve its Korean gallery

South Korea has recently announced a new partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to improve the museum's Korean gallery. Korean officials in the UK say it could be a great chance to share the unique beauty of Korean culture and art with a wider audience.

London's Victoria and Albert Museum is home to a permanent collection of around 2-point-3 million objects spanning over five-thousand years of human creativity.
The museum was founded in the 1850s, but it is always looking to keep its collection up-to-date, and recently announced a landmark five-year partnership with South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to improve the current Korean Gallery.
"The V&A has collected lots of art decorative and design project from Korea. I heard it started from 1888. Also they opened Korean gallery in 1992, almost 30 years ago. Its collection include various ceramics, embroidery, lacquerwares metal work and digital arts and some designs. But everyone think the display needs upgrading."
With the grant of around 1-point-8 million U.S. dollars, the Korean gallery will be redeveloped with a new narrative and display.
It will also raise awareness of Korean art through workshops and artists in residency.
The Korean ambassador to the UK says the partnership will be an opportunity to share Korean culture's unique beauty at a time when South Korean culture is getting worldwide attention through its films and music.
"Korea has garnered attention in recently successful response to COVID-19, leading to increasing awareness in Korea and demands to know better Korean history, culture, art and craft to both traditional and contemporary and etc. So with this new partnership with V&A I believe UK people and travelers to London from all over the world will be able to have more access to Korean culture and art."
South Korea plans to expand its partnerships with other cultural institutions to promote Korean culture and art, and contribute to cultural diversity and enrichment.
