Mother elephant and calf rescued after falling into shallow well in east India

Elephant and baby elephant was rescued after it falls into a shallow well in Siliguri, West Bengal.

The rescue mission took place on June 21, in the early morning at around 3:00am.

The mother and baby were roaming after getting separated from their herd and in the dark fell into the well.

Forest officers received a complaint and came to rescue the trapped pair. The area it had fallen into was near army camp near Bengal Safari Park.

The mother elephant was returned to the jungle after being rescued and the baby was shifted to Gorumara Reserve where vets checked it for injuries.

The baby will be returned to its mother after several days when the mother comes to claim it.
