President Moon raised the need to respond swiftly to concerns about the spread of illegal transactions made on cyberspace... especially now... with mounting social and economic difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Online gambling, voice phishing, and illegal loan sharking were just some that the president cited.
"Solving the problem of financial crime is crucial to overcoming COVID-19. These difficult economic times could lead to an increase in such crimes. We need to enforce tough measures from the initial stages."
Speaking at the first Anti-Corruption Policy Consultative Council of the year today, President Moon said that as Korea moves toward a digital economy, it's important to root out these cybercrimes and establish fariness from the get go.
Regarding the government's plan to create a special agency tasked with investigating corruption among high-ranking government officials by next month, Moon called on parliament to get to work and elect an official to lead the envisioned agency.
