A villager in east India heard his hens clucking loudly in alarm on the morning of June 21 and then discovered a live cobra stealing their eggs.

When Nabaghana Behera, a resident of Pipili area in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, went to check his poultry, he saw the cobra hurriedly swallowing eggs.

A Snake Helpline volunteer, Biranchi Narayana Acharjya, went to the spot quickly and rescued the four-feet long Indian cobra. The cobra had swallowed 5 eggs which had formed a line of lumps in its stomach.

As soon as Biranchi caught it, the cobra regurgitated all the eggs it had swallowed one by one. He released it in a far away natural habitat later.

Founder of Snake Helpline, Subhendu Malik, said: "Snakes usually regurgitate their meal if they fear for their safety and try to make a quick getaway.”
