Divers on Sand at Surin Islands with Spotted Garden Eels

Spotted Garden Eels (Heteroconger hassi) are quite common to see when liveaboard diving at Thailand's Similan and Surin Islands, but divers need to pay attention to see them. They live on the sandy sea bed at depths of 10-30 metres.
They are very shy, and if they feel at all threatened or scuba divers get too close, they sink down into their holes in the sand.
But if you're calm and keep a safe distance, you can see them come 30cm out of their holes to sieve plankton from the surrounding water.
In our video, the male diver points them out, but the young girl seems more interested in kicking up sand and blowing kisses.
