100-year-old woman goes on hunger strike for right to die
  • 4 years ago
One-hundred-year-old Helene Wuillemin started a hunger strike nine days ago to claim her right to die due to old age, despite not suffering from any major ailments. "Freedom is the motto of France but freedom is limited," she said at her home, before gesturing to a note hanging on her wall reading 'Freedom.' The centenarian and former teacher is not in bad health but is in pain. She has decided to publicise her choice to help people like herself who want to choose when to die but can't go down the route of euthanasia due to legal restrictions. "I'm on a hunger striker to die," she explained.
