The director of the upcoming Candyman remake, Nia DaCosta, has shared a haunting new teaser trailer for the film and with it, she is making a powerful statement. The trailer came along with the following note:

“CANDYMAN, at the intersection of white violence and black pain, is about unwilling martyrs. The people they were, the symbols we turn them into, the monsters we are told they must have been.”

The film, which was produced by Jordan Peele, “unleashes a fresh take on the blood-chilling urban legend that your friend’s older sibling probably told you about at a sleepover: Candyman.” The teaser offers a wonderfully animated video detailing the film’s chilling lore. Check it out:
