South Korea plans to raise to the UN's cultural agency the issue of Japan's failure to stick to its pledge to honor Korean wartime forced labor victims in its Industrial Heritage Information Center.
Seoul's foreign ministry said Tuesday that the country wants UNESCO to take "multilateral efforts" to ensure Japan keeps its word.
On Monday, Tokyo opened an information center on its Meiji-era industrial sites,... but did not explain the suffering of the victims nor does it properly remember them.
However, Japan's top diplomat stressed Tuesday that Tokyo kept its promise when its Meiji industrial sites were designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
He added that all of UNESCO's recommendations have been fulfilled to date.
