A lucky driver was able to get out of his car moments before it was hit by a train in Sumbermulyo village, Jombang regency, East Java, on Friday (June 12).

The 46-year-old driver was crossing the railway when his car stalled in the middle while the KA Ranggajati train approaches. He left the car in time before it was hit by the fast train unscathed.

Railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia's (KAI) said in a statement that the train had blown its horn from a distance but the driver allegedly ignored the warning.

"The driver was coming from the north and heading south, crossing the train track without looking left or right. The train had blown its horn but was ignored by the driver. The train only brushed the car."

Jombang Police traffic unit head Risky Fardian Caropeboka said there were no casualties in the incident.

He said: "We suspect the accident occurred due to the driver's carelessness."
