Villagers watch as road collapses into flooded river in northeastern India

This was the moment a road collapsed into a flooded lake in northeastern India.

A lake in Hekra village in Kamrup district, Assam flooded and started to overflow on June 7 due to heavy rain.

Villagers noticed that a road that had been built over a culvert began to shake and tremble as flood water gushed underneath.

As people watched, the road began to crumble right before their eyes and was completely washed away in seconds.

A local villager, Ram Kalita, said: “It was a lucky miss as people were alert. Many roads are collapsing this rainy season due to shoddy construction.”
