Snapdragon 865 PLUS: it’s happening this year.
There are expectations of a new SoC coming from Qualcomm within the next few months, either in the form of the already rumored Snapdragon 875 or a Snapdragon 865 Plus. The latter has been speculated upon before, but Wan Zhiqiang, who is the Chief Marketing Officer for Meizu, stated there would be no Snapdragon 865 Plus released in 2020. However, that hasn’t prevented an alleged Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus chip appearing on AnTuTu and smashing up the high scores previously set by the Snapdragon 865. The total score achieved by the 865 Plus, which was leaked on Weibo, was an immensely impressive 667,253 points. The average scores recorded by smartphones with the Snapdragon 865, such as the OPPO Find X2 smartphones and the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, just tip over the 600,000-point mark. Of course, this appears to be a one-off sample compared to the average scores managed by Snapdragon 865-powered smartphones, but the points difference is still remarkable. The Snapdragon 865 Plus is expected to bring a higher-performing “prime core” with it than the one found in its predecessor: 3.1 GHz clock rate vs. 2.84 GHz.
