Indian police to patrol streets of Mumbai on fleet of Segways

In an ambitious and eye-catching experiment, police personnel in western India's Maharashtra are using a fleet of Segway electric scooters to patrol the busy streets of Mumbai.

A group of Segway-riding officers were caught on camera at Marine Drive promenade in Mumbai on June 11.

The video shows the police personnel on the self-balancing, battery-powered electric two-wheelers that are hoped will help them cover more distance in an eco-friendly manner.

According to sources, this manner of patrolling will also help to control the busy crowd at Nariman Point & Worli promenades.

Reports suggest Bandra, Juhu and Versova will be covered next by Segway patrolling.

According to police officials, the Segway is very effective, as it is very small and nimble, coupled with that is the fact that it can be reversed.
