In a surprising development, the colour of water in Maharashtra's Lonar lake has turned pink, leaving many surprised at the overnight change, Notably, the 113-hectare Lonar lake had formed after a meteorite hit the Earth some 50,000 years ago. It is a popular tourist hub and also attracts scientists from all over the world. Experts have attributed the phenomena to the salinity and presence of algae in the water body. They said that this is not the first time that the colour change has happened, but this time it is more glaring.

महाराष्ट्र के बुलढाणा जिले में स्थित लोनार झील अपने स्वरुप के चलते हमेशा से जियोलॉजिस्ट से लेकर साइंटिस्टों को हैरान करती रही है। ताजा घटनाक्रम में झील का पानी पिछले 2-3 दिनों से नीले रंग से बदल कर पिंक रंग का होता जा रहा है। जिला प्रशासन ने भी मामले को गंभीर मानते हुए इसकी जांच शुरू कर दी है। हालांकि, इससे पहले इस झील पर हुई शोध में सामने आया है कि समय-समय पर इसके पानी में बदलाव होते रहे हैं।वैज्ञानिकों का मानना है कि ये झील उल्का पिंड की टक्कर से बनी है। इसका खारा पानी इस बात को दर्शाता है कि कभी यहां समुद्र था। शोध में ये भी दावा किया जाता है कि यह करीब दस लाख टन वजनी उल्का पिंड टकराने से ये झील बनी होगी।
