Here is a little more info about the lighthouse:
The iconic red and white Cape St Blaize Lighthouse is a signature feature of Mossel Bay Point, backed by awesome cliffs, endless ocean and massive caverns below. Ancient Khoi found nearby shelter in the Cape St. Blaize Cave (located below the lighthouse) and an archaeological dig revealed that early dwellers of the cave might have largely survived on the abundant shellfish.
The Cape St Blaize lighthouse was erected in 1864 and is manned 24 hours daily on the South African Coastline. Until the late 1970's, a clockwork system was originally used to turn the lens and it required a lightkeeper to climb up the tower and wind it up every three hours!
