Migrant workers, who have returned to their native villages amid lockdown in Odisha’s Jajpur, are getting employment under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme. One of the laborers said, “I was working as a carpenter in Bihar and due to lockdown I had come back. I have been working here for the last 6 days.” MGNREGA scheme aims at providing livelihood security in rural areas. Recently, the allocation for MGNREGA was increased by Rs 40000 crore to boost employment under the economic package.
