Although Utpal Dutt worked in many films, his real inclination was always from theater. He loved Shakespearean literature. After 1950, he joined a production company and started working in Bengali films. But during this time he was also fully active in the theater. He not only acted in many pledges but also wrote many plays. He was a supporter of leftist ideology and in his style he took a lot of stress on the government.
This was the reason that while on one hand he kept entertaining people through his acting in films, on the other hand he kept presenting his revolutionary ideology through plays. Many of his plays were in controversy. The political parties of that time used to get very upset due to the plays written by Utpal. Many times he had to go to jail for this reason too.
