Why We Need to Know about Zoroastrian Thought
- 4 years ago
Zoroastrianism has a long and tumultuous history, but one of the major turning points in this history is when Achaemenids gained power.
Historical evidence shows that when Cyrus the Great came to power, Zoroastrianism was one of the many religions in Iran.
But then it spread rapidly and after three decades it became so powerful that Darius officially mentioned the Zoroastrian God in Bisotun Inscription as the supporter of Persia’s King.
It is clear that, meanwhile, Zoroastrian ideals had a role in the formulation of Achaemenids’ inclusive plans.
Therefore, the process of gradual Zoroastrianization of Iran continued for the next two centuries until the time of Arsacids when, in this vast land that has been the birthplace of many religions, Zoroastrianism gained the most followers compared to other religions.
This numerical superiority and politico-cultural influence continued during the Sassanid period, but with the advent of Islam, little by little, the number of Zoroastrians and their politico-cultural influence diminished.
However, despite the fact that today no country supports this religion and the number of followers is small, Zoroastrianism is still important for several reasons:
