Human rights have been a hot topic in local and international politics since the 1960’s. Whether fighting for the right to marry the person of our choice or to end abuses like child labor all over the globe, Amnesty International has been in the trenches trying to make the world a better place. Amnesty International Day works to promote human rights and raise awareness of their abuses and how our choices affect them every day.

28 मई यानी गुरूवार को एमनेस्टी इंटरनेशनल डे है. एमनेस्टी इंटरनेशनल एक ऐसी संस्था जो दुनियाभर में शोषित-पीड़ित लोगों के लिए संघर्ष करती है, आवाज उठाती है। जिसके आगे शोषक और सरकारों को अक्सर झुकना पड़ता है. इस संस्था की स्थापना जुलाई 1961 में लंदन में हुई थी। पीटर बेन्सन और एक वकील ने कई बुद्धिजीवियों के साथ इसकी स्थापना की थी. इसकी शुरुआत तब हुई जब दो पुर्तगाली छात्रों को स्वतंत्रता के जश्न में शराब पीने के लिए सात साल की सजा सुनाई गई। उसी के खिलाफ संघर्ष करते हुए इस संगठन का निर्माण हुआ।
