In a heartwarming gesture, fire department workers in south India climbed down a 40-foot-deep well to rescue a stray dog trapped at the bottom.

The rescue took place on May 23 in Vidtilampatti near Trichy district, Tamil Nadu state. After getting information from the local people, the firefighters rushed to the scene.

One officer can be seen being lowered with a rope, and despite concerns that the dog would bite, the animal stood quietly and cooperated with the officers who helped him out. Officers then tied the dog to the rope and lifted it safely out of the well.
