Heavy rain causes flash floods in Taiwan closing schools and offices
  • 4 years ago
Heavy rain caused flash floods on roads in Taiwan today (May 22) forcing schools and offices to be closed.

The downpours battered the country overnight and throughout the morning. The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued torrential rain advisories for 20 out of 22 cities.

Footage from the Qixian 2nd Rd in Kaohsiung City shows drivers and pedestrians wading through the deluge. A drenched food delivery rider had to wade through the floods.

Meteorologist Daniel Wu forecast atmospheric instability, thunderstorm cells, lightning, strong winds, sudden heavy downpours, and "disastrous rainfall''.

He said: ''The increase of southwesterly winds will further exacerbate these factors, bringing heavy rain to torrential rainfall across Taiwan.''
