Frontline staff from the health care sector in the North West have gathered in silence to pay their respects to all those who have lost their battle with COVID-19.
A lone piper played at the Act of Remembrance at Altnagelvin Hospital, which was organised by Tyrone man Andy Campbell, who also delivered a care package for staff at Altnagelvin Hospital’s COVID ward, which he was able to secure through a series of fundraising challenges he undertook.
The care package was one of ten he has delivered to various local care teams.
Mr Campbell addressed those gathered for the Act of Remembrance and Clap for Heroes event last Thursday night.
The scenes outside the hospital on Thursday brought home just how serious the battle against coronavirus is.
It also brought home how vital our health care workers are on the frontline, and highlighted the amazing acts of kindness taking place in our communities.
In a special message to all those who helped him with the challenge and on Thursday night Andy said: “I would like to thank everyone who has donated anything over the past few weeks to me.
“I would also like to thank Ian and Alison from Unison for helping me arrange Thursday night’s Act Of Remembrance and Clap night, Micky Doherty for setting up the sound system, and the Rev. Lyndsay Blair, the hospital Chaplain for his professional manner in taking the prayers and to everyone for their kind words and encouragement.”
