An oriental garden lizard (Calotes versicolor) was spotted laying eggs at an industrial unit at Byasnagar in eastern India on May 16th.

Environmentalist Manas Ranjan Mahanty managed to film the rare sight.

After laying the eggs, the lizard covered the hole with mud and went away.

"Lizards usually avoid humans. But this one was not bothered by the human presence at all," Manas said.

“I never thought I would get a chance to witness the rare event let alone film it,” he added.

Oriental garden lizards lay about 10 - 20 eggs which hatch in about 6 weeks.
