The curse was over when the final buzzer rang at Boston Garden on game 6 of the 1985 NBA Finals. The Celtics mystique was laid to rest. The curse of the Bill Russell led Celtics over the Los Angeles Lakers was put to bed at the expense of Larry Bird, Robert Parish, Cedric Maxwell, Kevin McHale, Danny Ainge & Dennis Johnson.

The ‘85 Lakers, led by the immortal Kareem and his sky hook sent the winningest franchise in all of sports reeling as just a few months later, in a planned reboot, Red Auerbach tore apart his historic front line, sending Cedric Maxwell to the other LA team (Clippers) and bringing a rejuvenated Bill Walton in for the 85-86 season. The new look Celtics poised for an iconic rematch w their axed rivals from out west that never actually happened, thanks to the infamous flyer from Ralph Sampson that eliminated LA from the ‘86 playoffs premature of their 3rd consecutive finals matchup against Boston.
