Coronavirus: Japan extends its national state of emergency until end of May

After continuing to see a considerable number of new coronavirus infections, Japan has decided to extend its nationwide state of emergency until May 31, 2020. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced the extension on May 4. A month-long state of emergency initially covering Tokyo and six other regions was declared on April 7 and later expanded to cover the entire country.
