Recent research claims more than 3-hundred-30-thousand South Koreans could lose their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Korea Economic Research Institute announced Monday that South Korea could see such massive unemployment in the worst case scenario of the economy shrinking by 6-point-7 percent.
Such unemployment figures would become the second highest in the country's history following the 1998 Asian financial crisis, which saw 9-hundred-22-thousand people lose their jobs.
In order to mitigate the damage, the institute urged for aggressive countermeasures, such as providing 3 months of financial aid for employees who are on unpaid career breaks.
It also advised that duty-free shops, event agencies, and school lunch providers should also be eligible for special employment support.
