Varanasi is one of the oldest and holiest cities in India. Hindus believe being cremated will free them from the cycle of rebirth. The funeral pyres usually bring big crowds to the Ganges river but because of a nationwide coronavirus lockdown, there are fewer people than before. Funerals have dropped from around 250 a day to closer to 35.
