Residents were terrified after golf ball-sized hailstones battered their homes during storms in northern Thailand.

Weerachai Namsiphan was working when she heard the objects smashing down onto her roof in Nong Bua Lam Phu province.

Footage from Sunday night (April 12) shows the area was covered with large hailstones after a sudden summer storm battered homes.

Officials reported today that 93 buildings across three districts were damaged but luckily there were no casualties.

The provincial chief officer of the department of disaster prevention and mitigation Prasit Chaiyavet said the department acted immediately to help the locals.

He said: "After the storm had ceased we sent out our officers to survey the area to evaluate the damage and now are planning measures to help repair properties.''

The storms moved south to central Thailand today (April 13) where a tornado was seen in Si Racha in Chonburi province.

While in Bangkok, strong wind and heavy rain caused flash floods across the city.

Thailand's Meteorological Department said there will be summer thunderstorms in provinces mainly in the northeast part of Thailand from April 12 to 14.
