COVID-19: Migrant workers in Surat create ruckus over fear of lockdown extension

Migrant workers in Surat on April 10 resorted to violence allegedly fearing extension of lockdown beyond April 14. Many of them pelted stones at policemen and indulged in vandalism. Police officials detained more than 60 people. A case has been registered under relevant section of IPC. Speaking on this, Surat DCP said, "Workers blocked road and pelted stones. Police reached the spot and detained 60-70 people. We have come to know that they were demanding to go back home."
