তারাপীঠ - মা তারার আরাধ্য পীঠ। বীরভূম জেলা তথা বাংলার বিখ্যাত শক্তিপীঠ(সিদ্ধপীঠ) গুলির মধ্যে অন্যতম। অনেকের ভাবনায় এটি সতাপীঠ(মহাপীঠ) বলে আখ্যায়িত হলেও আসলে এটি কোনো মহাপীঠ নয়, এটি সিদ্ধপীঠ। এখানকার মহাশ্মশান হিন্দু ধর্মাবলম্বী মানুষদের কাছে খুবই পবিত্র। পুরাকালে বশিষ্ঠ ঋষি এই জায়গায় তপস্যা করে সিদ্ধি লাভ করেন এবং পরবর্তীকালে পাগলা ক্ষ্যাপা নামে পরিচিত বামাক্ষাপা একই জায়গায় সিদ্ধি লাভ করে(যা বর্তমানে লুপ্ত)। শাক্তদের কাছে এই মন্দির আর শশ্মান তীর্থক্ষেত্র।
