One of the series paired Olympiacos Piraeus with Montepaschi Siena. The Reds were on fire coming from five consecutive wins in the Top 16 after having lost the opener, but Siena was on a similar place having lost its first two Top 16 games but winning the last four. Two teams on fire were meeting for a Playoffs opener in which hosting Olympiacos would rout Siena in record-setting fashion with a 89-41 win. Then, they would lose the series and miss the Final Four.
