In 1918, when the whole world was trying to recover from the situation after the First World War, Spanish flu was knocked out. Spanish Flu killed twice as many people as it did in World War I. दुनियाभर में कोरोना वायरस के बढ़ते कहर को देखते हुए इसे आधिकारिक तौर पर महामारी घोषित किया जा चुका है। कोरोना के खौफ ने 1918 में फैले स्पेनिश फ्लू की यादें ताजा कर दी हैं। 1918 में जब पूरी दुनिया प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के बाद के हालात से उबरने की कोशिश कर रही थी, उसी समय स्पेनिश फ्लू ने दस्तक दी थी। प्रथम विश्व युद्ध में जितने लोग मारे गए, स्पेनिश फ्लू ने उससे दो गुना लोगों को अपना शिकार बनाया। बताया जाता है कि उस दौरान दुनियाभर में करीब 5 करोड़ से 10 करोड़ लोग मारे गए थे। यही नहीं, इसे मानव इतिहास की सबसे भीषण महामारियों में से एक माना गया था। ऐसा बताया जाता है कि स्पेनिश फ्लू ने अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डॉनल्ड ट्रंप के दादा को भी अपना शिकार बनाया था। कोरोना और स्पेनिश फ्लू में तुलना इसलिए की जा रही है क्योंकि दोनों महामारियों ने लोगों को अंदर से हिला दिया।
