Instragram: Golden retriever Rae the one-eared ‘Unicorn Dog’
  • 4 years ago
A one-eared dog is capturing the internet’s heart and has earned comparisons to the mythical unicorn.

Rae, a 12-week-old golden retriever pup, had an injury during birth that left the dog with only one ear.

As Rae grew, her right ear migrated to the middle of her head, where it now sticks up like a unicorn horn.

Rae’s carer Brianna Aardema started an Instagram account for the dog at the end of February that has since amassed more than 21,000 followers.
Ms Aardema works at a vet hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, according to Good Morning America.

She adopted Rae into her care after emergency surgery following the dog’s birth.

“The minute I saw her, I knew I wanted to raise her and be there for her even though I knew the road to recovery wouldn’t always be easy,” she said.

The ear migration doesn’t appear to be the result of any specific condition and was just an accident at birth.

Rae is now well-poised to take the “weird-looking dog on social media” crown from dearly departed lopsided Shih tzu Marnie, who died last week aged 18.
