18-year-old from Assam's Dhing village became a star overnight as she kept improving her timing through the year, culminating into a national record time of 50.79 seconds while winning silver in the Asian Games. Hima's rise to a top quarter-miler has been nothing short of phenomenal considering that she has already run sub 51 sec at 18 years of age and that too after just a dozen of competitive races since late 2016. But her road to becoming an international elite will not be easy as the field is highly competitive.

हिमा की कहानी शुरू होती है. असम के नागौन जिले से. इसी जिले में एक गांव है. नाम है ढिंग. यहाँ भारत की गोल्डन गर्ल हिमा दास का जन्म हुआ था. हिमा का परिवार बहुत बड़ा है. 17 लोगों के इस परिवार की जिंदगी खेती से ही चलती है. इसलिए, हिमा का ज्यादातर समय खेतों में ही बिता. जहाँ वो बुआई और निराई में परिवार का हाथ बंटाती थी. दिलचस्प बात ये है कि शुरूआती समय में हिमा दास का स्प्रिंटर बनने का कोई इरादा ही नहीं था. उन्हें फुटबॉल से ज्यादा लगाव था. इसलिए, वो सुनील छेत्री की तरह मैदान में किक लगाना चाहती थी. लेकिन, किस्मत को कुछ और ही मंजूर था.
