Australian photographer films 'magical' moment bioluminescent algae sparkles in the rain

An Australian photographer filmed the moment bioluminescent algae glowed and sparkled in a rain shower on January 16.
Jason De Freitas, @jjofthedrums_ on Instagram, was Jervis Bay when the rain began to hit the sea's surface creating a celestial backdrop.
De Freitas told Newsflare: "I was taking photos of it on 35mm film when it started raining and sparkling so I decided to bust out my DSLR. Some people have speculated that nutrients released from the fires caused the bloom to be so strong."
The bioluminescent algae are known as Noctiluca scintillans, a microscopic creature that eats plankton and lets off a blue glow when disturbed.
De Freitas also posted the footage to Reddit with the caption" "Rain + Bioluminescence = actual magic". The post has received almost 10,000 upvotes.
